Prince Charles has taken part in a video tribute to Countdown, mocking his famous interview with Molly Meldrum – some of the greatest car-crash television in Australian history.

His Royal Highness appeared on the iconic Australian music show in 1977, where he was interviewed by a clearly flustered Molly, who just couldn’t string a sentence together.

“There is an old showbusiness saying which warns never to work with animals or children. But nobody prepared me for Molly Meldrum,” he says.

The video will be shown in a two-part documentary tribute to the show, Countdown – Do Yourself a Favour, which will screen on the ABC on November 16 and 23.
