In what seems like an indescribably low act, the playwright and producers of a Broadway show are suing the former lead actress for getting sick and ‘hurting‘ the play, US gossip website TMZ reports.

The Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda and Valerie star Valerie Harper is being sued for $US2 million following claims that she damaged the play she was starring with when was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Harper was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009 but continued to work and she was hired as the role in Matthew Lombardo’s Broadway show, Looped.

She played the role for three years and received stellar reviews, but was forced to quit the role when she was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2012 and was given only months to live.

Gawker reports that the production company behind the play refused to pay out her contract, which Harper sued it for.

Lombardo and the show’s producers are now suing Harper saying that she hid the cancer from them in order to keep working, asking she be forced to pay the $US500,000 they spent on hiring a new actress, plus $US1.5 million in punitive damages.
