Twenty years after her engagement with Brad Pitt ended suddenly, Gwyneth Paltrow has taken responsibility for the high-profile split.

The Oscar-winner revealed her role in the relationship breakdown when she opened up on a recent episode of the Girlboss Radio podcast.

She started with a broad admission: “I’ve f—ked up so many relationships, so many.

“I’m actually a pretty good friend, and a good sister and a daughter and a mother, but I’m at my potentially most vulnerable and f–ked up in the romantic slice of the pie,” said Ms Paltrow, 44.

Chimed in the show’s host, “So Brad Pitt, if you’re listening …”

Paltrow copped the blame: “I f–ked that up, Brad.”

The mother-of-two explored the Pitt split less bluntly in 2015, telling radio host Howard Stern: “I think I was a kid and I wasn’t ready. He was too good for me.

“I honestly do think, I was too young and didn’t know what I was doing.

“I mean I was 22 when we met and it’s taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass,” she said. “You can’t make a decision when you’re 22 years old.”

The spotlit pair fell in love on the set of thriller Seven in 1995 and Pitt proposed the next year in Argentina.

In his 1996 Golden Globes acceptance speech for 12 Monkeys, Pitt thanked Gwyneth, his “angel, the love o’ my life.”

Just over a year later, the love ended. Ms Paltrow and Mr Pitt’s June 1997 bust up led news broadcasts and made global headlines, with his rep telling The New York Post the split was “not because of any one specific event.”

Ms Paltrow was slightly more expansive, saying, “When two people aren’t supposed to be together, they’re not supposed to be together.”

The Iron Man star went on to marry Coldplay singer Chris Martin in 2003, and they had children Apple and Moses before famously “consciously-uncoupling” in 2014.

Mr Pitt’s five-year marriage to Jennifer Aniston ended in 2005, and his 11-year relationship with Angelina Jolie came to a screeching halt last September.

Her self-confessed relationship problems haven’t put Ms Paltrow off romance.

In April 2015 she went public with her relationship with Glee producer Brad Falchuk, and said in her Girlboss Radio confessional, “It’s taken me a lot of, a lot of work to get to the place where I have a good romantic relationship.”

She has motivation to be in that place: the star said she finds having “relationships of quality” is crucial to being a “successful person”.

Said the Goop lifestyle maven, “So, if you don’t have a good relationship with your partner, your children, your best friends, then I think it’s very hard to claim success.

“It makes life feel full and rich and happy, like the quality of your relationships dictate so much how your life feels, so for me that’s the number one.”
