Our best restaurant is …

Melbourne’s Attica has been selected by the prominent food industry professionals as Australia’s best restaurant, placing No. 32 on the 2014 list of the world’s best.

The placement marks an 11-place drop in the rankings for the Ripponlea icon, which last year came in at No. 21. Attica is the only Australian offering in the top 50, with Sydney’s Quay dropping to No. 60 from No. 48 last year.

Copenhagen’s Noma, headed by chef and co-owner René Redzepi, reclaimed the top spot this year from Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca, which placed second.

Attica’s head chef Ben Shewry is known for the constantly evolving menu of local fresh ingredients he serves up at the Ripponlea restaurant.

Australian chefs at international restaurants have also ranked on the list. Newcastle’s Brett Graham placed 10 for his work at London’s The Ledbury and David Thompson’s Bangkok restaurant Nahm placed 13 on the list.
