For generations, moving out of home has been considered a major milestone of adulthood, often happening sometime in a person’s twenties.
But new research suggests that timeline is changing and it’s creating challenges for parents and their adult children.
A survey from financial comparison site Finder has revealed the age Australians believe adult children have officially overstayed their welcome is at 31, with soaring rents and cost-of-living pressures being named as key issues.
The findings have reignited debate over whether staying at home longer is a practical financial decision in today’s economy, or a sign that some young Australians are putting off traditional markers of adulthood.
