Federal Govt says regional projects funding promises premature
The Federal Government has confirmed regional projects earmarked for funding by Labor will not necessarily go ahead.
Yesterday, the former regional Australia minister, Catherine King, said up to 700 regional projects across Australia would not be funded because the contracts were not signed before this year’s election.
A revamp of the Horsham pool and library, plus works at Longrenong College, are some of the projects in doubt.
The Swan Hill council says Ms King allocated funding to redo the runway of its aerodrome.
The council is partially funding the project itself but says the extent of the upgrades are now unclear.
A spokesman for Ms King’s successor, Warren Truss, says the former government should not have spruiked the projects when contracts had not been finalised.
The Swan Hill council plans to raise the issue with Mr Truss.
