A popular brand of highchair has been recalled in Australia after dangerous incidents and an injury involving children.

Customers who own the Bugaboo Giraffe chair have been urged to “stop using it immediately”.

The chair is designed for infants to toddlers and can be adjusted to “grow with your child”.

“The screws connecting the legs to the frame can become loose and may detach when a baby or toddler is seated with or without the baby set accessory of the highchair,” warns the ACCC’s Product Safety.

The ACCC said there was a risk of serious injury from falling if the chair detached from the frame while in use.

“There have been incidents and an injury involving babies.”

The highchair includes a baby-set accessory for ages six months to 36 months old.

Children aged from 36 months can use the chair without the baby set.

The Bugaboo highchair is made from beech wood and bio-plastic in muted colours.

It was selected as an award-winner by online shop Red Dot for its minimalist design, functionality and quality.

“The high chair is designed such that it can be adapted to the developmental stage and height of the child in just a few simple steps,” said Red Dot.

“The key elements in this are a seat and a footrest that can be adjusted in height within seconds.

“This way, the chair provides ergonomic back support for children of all heights and ages.

“Accessories such as the newborn set, for which an optional rocker base is available, the baby seat with harness, or the machine-washable tray can be attached easily and securely to the upper bars as needed.”

The ACCC said consumers should register their details for a repair kit, replacing the current screws with redesigned screws using an improved Allen key.
