A popular tahini paste has been dumped from major supermarket shelves across the country.
Manufacturer AB World Foods has recalled its Al’Fez Natural Tahini Paste amid fears of salmonella contamination.
The affected products are 160-gram jars with best-before dates of June 2025. They have been sold at Woolworths nationwide.
“Consumers should not eat this product. Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,” Food Standards Australia New Zealand said.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
NSW Health says most salmonella infections in Australia occur after eating contaminated food or sometimes after contact with another person with the infection.
It can also be caused by eating undercooked food, including meat, poultry and eggs, made from infected animals.
NSW Health says symptoms include headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.
They usually start six to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria and can last a week or even longer.
