More than 5000 Australians cast their votes in the 2024  Product of the Year (POY) awards, and the winners suggest many are loving what the supermarkets are offering under their own labels.

Research conducted by NielsenIQ for POY suggests 86 per cent of Australians are employing cost-saving techniques when grocery shopping and 45 per cent are opting for home brands to save some money.

“Alongside this, three in five are making the ultimate ‘snack-rifice’ and removing indulgent foods and snacks like chocolates, desserts and premium nuts from their shopping lists, in order to cut down costs,” POY said in a media release.

Coles took out the most awards with 19 wins out of 44, while Woolworths scooped up 10.

Aldi was crowned the most affordable by customers this year.

The best products Coles has on offer

From protein bars to baking mixes to pasta, Coles’ own brands proved to be a favourite in many categories.

“For the fourth year, Coles has held its leading retailer title for its award-winning products that continue to raise the bar when it comes to innovation, quality and value for money — speaking to what customers are looking for when they step into a supermarket,” POY director Sarah Connelly said.
