Seafood and pasta will be off the menus in many Australian households after major recalls at Aldi and Woolworths this week.

Manufacturer Patties Foods has recalled from of its preprepared pasta amid fears it is contaminated with metal.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand said the affected  630-gram bags of Leggo’s Fresh Ricotta & Vegetable Tortellini had use-by dates of August 4.

They have been sold at Woolworths supermarkets across Queensland.

“Food products contaminated with foreign matter (metal) may cause illness/injury if consumed,” FSANZ said on Monday.

“Consumers should not eat this product and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

Meanwhile, rival Aldi has conducted its own recall of two varieties of anchovy fillets.

FSANZ said the 100-gram jars of OceanRise Anchovy Fillets in olive oil, and with chilli, had been sold at the discount supermarket nationwide. Both varieties were produced in Spain.

“The recall is due to elevated histamine levels,” FSANZ said.

“Food products containing high histamine levels may cause illness if consumed.”

Food Authority NSW says histamine is a biogenic amine that can be found in decaying fish and is a cause of food-borne illness. Fresh fish is not affected.
