Nude photo threat: ‘Emma Watson you are next’
Emma Watson could be the next female celebrity targeted by a nude photo hacking ring.
• Second wave of hacked celebrity pics leaked
• Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin ‘happy together’
• Watson graduates with fake friend
After spreading stolen private photos of celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian, a group of hackers has created a new website promising to release naked images of the young Harry Potter star.
Titled “Emma Watson You Are Next”, the site features a countdown timer and a message reading “Never forget, the biggest to come thus far”.
The site, which many Reddit users are already dismissing as a fake, also includes an image of the 24-year-old crying.
The threats come just days after the actress and Goodwill ambassador appeared at the United Nations’ New York headquarters to deliver a speech on gender equality.
On Saturday, Watson launched the HeForShe campaign, calling on men to play a bigger role in stamping out discrimination against women.
“Women are choosing not to identify as feminists. Apparently, I am among the ranks of women whose expressions are seen as too strong, ‘too aggressive,’ isolating and anti-men, unattractive, even. Why has the word become such an uncomfortable one?” Watson said.
“Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.”
The actress has also spoken out about the previous celebrity photo hackings on Twitter, decrying the lack of empathy shown towards the victims.
Even worse than seeing women’s privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy.
