Beyoncé’s father Mathew Knowles has denied ever hitting his megastar daughter after the release of her highly-personal visual album last week.

Lemonade, an hour-long musical and visual journey in which the singer appears to accuse husband Jay Z of cheating, also included damning lyrics relating to her father’s alleged infidelities and even physical abuse.

Lyrics from the song Make it Plan included the question: “Did he convince you that he was God? Are you a slave to the back of his hand?”

Many listeners took the line to suggest Mr Knowles was physically abusive, either towards the singer’s mother or Beyoncé herself.

Beyoncé hasn’t commented on the lyrics, but her father did request as interview with radio station Sirus XM to clear up the media speculation.

“I can say I have never in my life hit my daughter,” Mr Knowles responded when quizzed over the lyrics.

“So, she has never been a slave to the back of my hand because I didn’t believe in that.”

Mr Knowles said he “didn’t know” whether the lyrics were about him, but he “didn’t think so”.

“There’s no way we can get into the mind of Beyoncé,” he said.

The father was also asked if he knew the identity of the infamous “Becky with the good hair” – a lyric that has been taken to mean everyone from fashion designer Rachel Roy, to singer Rita Ora or even a generic white woman.

Mr Knowles told E News the line was directed more universally.

“Let me tell you who she’s talking about, can I tell you who she’s talking about? She’s talking about you,” he said.

“You put that in context for you personally. She’s talking about you and everybody that is you, that’s who she’s talking about.

“Every one of us have been disappointed before and have had to go through the grieving process of anger and, you know, disappointment and then acceptance and forgiveness.”

In 2011, Mr Knowles split from Beyoncé’s mother Tina after 30 years of marriage. It was also about that time that it was revealed he had fathered a child with another woman, and Beyoncé fired him as her long-time manager.

Beyoncé’s Lemonade album is available on iTunes and Tidal.
