The 32-year-old supermodel said she and her ex-husband, actor Orlando Bloom, had a rule about introducing new partners so their son.

“We had to know the person for six months and feel good about them,” she explained.

“Evan met Flynn, so yeah, things are going well. Orlando thinks he’s great. We’re just a modern family now!”

Kerr said she first met Spiegel – who has an estimated net worth of US$2.1 billion – at a “work dinner for Louis Vuitton” and found him “sweet, really kind and smart”.

“You can’t close yourself off from love,” Kerr said. “I try to keep my heart open and not feel afraid.”

The duo’s first date was at a Kundalini yoga class at the Golden Bridge yoga studio in Santa Monica, California.

Kerr said the relationship works despite the seven-year age gap because of Spiegel possesses maturity beyond his years.

“He’s 25, but he acts like he’s 50,” she said.

“He’s not out partying. He goes to work in Venice [Beach], he comes home. We don’t go out. We’d rather be at home and have dinner, go to bed early.”

However, Kerr insisted Spiegel wasn’t too old to have a bit of fun.

“I’m telling you, I’ve got the best of both worlds!” she said with a wink.

Kerr divorced Bloom, 38, in 2013 after three years of marriage but have remained on amicable terms to co-parent Flynn.

In 2014, Spiegel faced controversy after some explicitly-worded emails he sent during his college years were leaked to the media.

He apologised for the content of the messages, saying: “They in no way reflect who I am today or my views towards women.”
