Former Neighbours actress snatches son

Former Neighbours and Underbelly star Eliza Szonert is reportedly being investigated by Malaysian police after snatching her son from her estranged partner at a restaurant in Malaysia.

On Sunday reports said Ms Szonert, 41, had travelled to Kuala Lumpur to visit her former partner, however she alleged the meeting turned ugly.

According to the actress, a disagreement with former partner Ashley Crick led to him allegedly ordering her from their shared accommodation.

She also claimed he confiscated her passport and would not allow her to see their son.

Ms Szonert said that after appealing to the Australian High Commission, she used child recovery experts to help locate her son at a suburban mall.

When she found her son at a restaurant she picked him up and swiftly left the scene.

According to various businesses who detail their services online, child recovery experts are professionals who help parents “recover abducted children”.

Video footage showed Ms Szonert casually walking into a restaurant with another man and then picking up her child and leaving the scene.

Mr Crick looked to be speaking to someone as the child was taken away, with seemingly no resistance being shown.

Ms Szonert could be heard telling Mr Crick “I’ll call you a bit later”, as she walked away with the child.

“[I’m] very happy,” she can be heard saying in a taxi with her son afterwards.

“[I’m] feeling adrenaline. And relieved, I’m crying.”

The Rakyat Post reported that Mr Crick filed a police report the same day.

The deputy police chief of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Law Hong Soon, said Mr Crick went to police headquarters to report what happened on Thursday night.

“I think this case is more towards a family conflict,” Mr Law told Malaysian national news agency Bernama.

“The police will seek Szonert to record her statement.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Fairfax Media it was providing “consular assistance” to an Australian woman in Kuala Lumpur.

It withheld further information due to privacy concerns.

Mr Crick was quoted as saying he was “just focused on my son’s wellbeing”.

It is believed that Mr Crick moved to Malaysia to work on an online video platform.
