Kris Smith ‘didn’t like’ how he looked

To nearly every woman in Australia, Kris Smith has always been the image of the perfect male anatomy.

Despite this, the buff Myer ambassador says he used to be so body conscious he never went to the beach, “purely because I didn’t like how I looked”, Smith told AAP.

“So I would slip in and out of being happy with my body.”

But after undergoing a six-week body transformation in June, the 35-year-old says he’s in the best shape of his life.

And it showed at the Myer spring/summer collections launch on Thursday night, when Smith joined Jennifer Hawkins and Kate Peck on the runway to showcase all the latest looks.

The former rugby league player – and his bulging biceps – sauntered down the catwalk with his posse of male models in cheeky checked suits by Dom Bagnato.

“We were told backstage by the choreographer to walk the Dom Bagnato section like we’re a bunch of guys with our drunken, rowdy friends just walking up the street,” Smith said.

And even though the drunken raucous look added a fresh element to the show, it couldn’t be further from Smith’s real life right now.

The model and presenter unofficially did Dry July as part of his pre-runway regime, which included eating no carbs after 2pm.

“Jen (Hawkins) laughs at me about this, but I think it gives your body time to break them down and burn them off,” he said.

“I’m eating six small meals a day. It’s very cliched, it’s very old-fashioned, but I find it really works for me personally.”

To top it all, Smith works out twice a day seven days a week, keeping his workouts fresh by mixing it up with weights sessions, spin classes, boxing and running.

“I feel a lot healthier, stronger and fitter than probably I ever have done,” he said.

“It’s been this journey now which really cemented what I want to do for the rest of the time, not just for shows.”
