The three movies not to miss this weekend
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Director: Matt Reeves
Cast: Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell
Duration: 130mins
Rating: M
Why you should see it: Stephen A Russell for the lowdownunder says“Much will be made of Andy Serkis’ performance in the role of Caesar, and it is nothing short of magnificent, but fair mention should also be given to Toby Kebbell, who almost upstages him as the aggressive Koba.”
The Lunchbox
Director: Ritesh Batra
Cast: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur
Duration: 101 mins
Language: Hindi and English with English subtitles
Rating: PG
Why you should see it: The Lunchbox has been compared to a mix-up if Brief Encounter and The Shop Around the Corner. A stifled man and a married woman fall into a chaste relationship when they are given the wrong lunches.
Calvary
Director: John Michael McDonagh
Starring: Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Aidan Gillen, Dylan Moran
Duration: 100 minutes
Classification: M 15+
Why you should watch it: Without a doubt the movie of the week. Director McDonagh (The Guard) teams up again with fabulous Irish actor Brendan Gleeson in this story about a priest whose life is threatened in confession. Calvary tackles deeply serious subjects, including child abuse, murder, adultery, but juxtaposes the heavy with some very dark humour.
